The company behind the cryptocurrency is Ripple Labs which is based in San Francisco, USA. It can be used for making secure payments via the internet. The transactions are made quickly and at a low cost while using less power than many other cryptocurrencies like bitcoin or ethereum. xrp differs from other cryptocurrencies because it does not use blockchain technology to track transaction, but instead uses ripple protocol consensus algorithm (RPCA). This means that only accounts that have trust lines with parties they transact with needs to store information on past transactions. Accounts that do not trust each other need to take part in bookkeeping together so unlike blockchain there are no blocks being created and stored forever which makes it possible that all transactions can be deleted in a matter of seconds.
The mainnet genesis block was created on September 2012 and it is currently working as a decentralized global payment system network. In order to use this payment system, you need to have xrp coins in your wallet.
This payment method uses the XRP currency to make sure that the transactions are completed fastly.
